Should I Avoid Rowing?
People who have had back pain are often, and understandably, fearful of doing something which might make it happen again.
Unfortunately if we avoid activities like rowing then we are setting our selves up for another painful episode in the future. This is because reducing the amount of flexion you do increases the likelyhood of a flare up when you do bend your back because your body is simply not used to it. If you have a flexion sensitive back the trick is to do flexion, starting in very small doses and then build up so that you can become used to it and perhaps even strong at it, rather than trying to avoid it.
