About Adam Richmond – Osteopath in Nottingham

If you’re considering booking with an osteopath in Nottingham, the real question usually isn’t “What do you do?”
It’s “Will you actually take me seriously?” – This page should help answer that.

Experience first — but never on autopilot

I’ve been working hands-on with musculoskeletal pain since 2005, and qualified as an osteopath in 2011.
That adds up to well over 10,000 hours of patient-facing clinical experience.

What that gives me isn’t a favourite technique — it’s judgement.

I’ve seen enough people, presentations, setbacks and recoveries to know that:

  • pain is rarely simple
  • one-size approaches don’t hold up
  • rushing decisions usually creates more problems than it solves

Experience only matters if it’s used thoughtfully. That’s what I aim to do.

Much of my work focuses on people with ongoing or recurring back pain and hip pain, particularly when previous treatment hasn’t helped.
If that’s you, you can read more about my approach to back pain treatment in Nottingham here.

I don’t give advice I wouldn’t follow myself

This is a principle I take seriously.

If I wouldn’t follow the advice myself, I won’t give it to you.

That applies to:

  • exercise
  • strength work
  • activity advice
  • and how people are encouraged to live with pain

I train regularly myself. I lift. I move. I get stiff. I get sore.

So when I suggest something, it’s grounded in reality — not generic exercise sheets, extreme posture rules, or advice that looks good on paper but falls apart in real life.

Calm, direct, and easy to talk to

People often describe me as:

  • calm
  • direct
  • reassuring
  • no-nonsense
  • easy to talk to

I think that matters.

Pain can be worrying. Appointments shouldn’t be.
You don’t need impressing or lecturing — you need to feel listened to, understood, and taken seriously.

Many patients tell me this is the first appointment where they’ve felt properly listened to and genuinely understood.

Training that supports flexible thinking (not rigid protocols)

My training spans the UK and internationally, with a strong focus on back pain, hip pain, and persistent or recurring problems.

This includes study with:

  • the European School of Osteopathy
  • the London School of Osteopathy
  • the Rehabilitation School in Prague (Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation)
  • the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute (NOI), Australia (pain science and graded exposure)

I’ve also trained extensively in chronic pain, movement, tendinopathy, and modern pain science.

The common thread isn’t technique — it’s learning how to adapt the approach to the person, not the other way around.

A bit about me, outside the clinic

I’m a family man with a wife and two young children.

I stay active myself through regular strength training and weekly paddle tennis, and I coach my son’s rugby team.
Movement isn’t something I just talk about — it’s part of my own life.

That perspective matters. Pain doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens alongside work, family, responsibilities, and stress.

Who I’m usually a good fit for

People tend to do well with me if they:

  • want straight answers
  • value time and attention
  • are fed up with generic advice
  • want treatment and understanding

If you’re looking for a quick fix without assessment, or rigid protocols applied regardless of context, I’m probably not the right person — and I’m fine with that.
